Wordfence Security Questions

Hello,
I was wondering:
1) When Wordfence performs a scan, does it scan the database?

2) When “login.php” http requests exceed the settings at: (Wordfence>Options>Login Security Options) what actually happens? Is that IP no longer able to submit “login.php” requests, which means nothing will show up in the access logs, or will the http requests still show up in the access logs but display status codes of 4xx and 5xx?

3) If my shared server is running modsecurity, how does Wordfence operate? Does Wordfence operate/monitor secondary to modsecurity where it only monitors/protects against requests that pass through the modsecurity firewall?
