User sync says that users are created in MC but they are not

I’m a brand new user having installed MailChimp for WordPress and MailChimp Usersync. I’ve set up a list in MailChimp and set the API key in the plugin. When I use the manual syncronisation I get a log generated saying that each and every user has been synced with MailChimp, but when I log in, there are no subscribers.

These plugins seem pretty awesome, and I want to persist with them rather than trying others. So if you could help me identify where it is going wrong, that would be fantastic. Note that I’m not getting any error listed.
