Is there a way to add a simple “Like” button on my terms?

I see a lot of plugins, mainly offering “like box” as a feature, but I would like to do it on my own.

Is it possible to create a link of some sort, that would like the page on Facebook directly from a WordPress blog, without redirecting or pop ups?

I understand I need to go through Facebook to do this, as it goes back there and tells me or other visitors if they liked the page earlier.

Or better yet — is there a plugin that does just that? Lets me choose only the Like button and place it using a shortcode?
