Hi,
I am trying to build my first website with:
1. A menu bar at the top with a sidebar for a submenu
2. A gallery where long captions are permanently displayed below each image (not on hover)
3. A minimum size for the width of the image (with the height scaled)
4. The number of columns in the gallery dependent on the width of the screen on the device used.
I have tried to achieve this by using the twenty twelve theme. It has a menu bar at the top with a sidebar where I can add a widget for the submenu. The twenty twelve theme also displays captions under images, unlike the twenty fourteen theme and onwards which only display captions on hover. I have also managed to add code to display multiline captions.
However the problem I am having is that, just say if I set the gallery to 5 columns, it will look fine on usual sized screens, but on smaller screens it will squeeze the photos to fit the 5 columns and the photos are too small. I think it is better that the number of columns are automatically reduced for smaller screens while keeping the photos at a minimum size.
However this does not seem possible. When inserting the gallery I have to specify the number of columns.
I am willing to change my theme if it would make it easier to solve, but it has to meet all the requirements above.
