Yoast Free Version is more than enough for me to achieve a good result in Google Search. I came across Yoast when looking for a plugin to give me control over my Meta titles and META descriptions. With Yoast, I found a lot more than that in the plugin bundle.
In the old days we use to have to count the characters manually to make sure we had the correct character count. Yoast does this automatically which reduces my downtime.

Yoast has many other features that can improve your SEO score. I believe Yoast is a very good guide to SEO. Obviously there are a lot more boxes to be ticked in SEO than just getting all green lights on Yoast like, good structure and page speed.
I fully recommend Yoast as a must use plugin. I generally use 3 or 4 plugins as my core for each development that I know don’t conflict. If I use a plugin that creates conflicts I will remove it and find something else that does not conflict with Yoast.
The only downside is that when requesting support they don’t want to talk to you unless you have the premium. I did an upgrade with their plugin once and it crashed my site. I figure if you release an upgrade, you should give support for it otherwise it looks like extortion.
